CUNY is No.1 Again in Standard & Poor's Survey
The City University of New York ranks first in the nation in the number
of baccalaureate alumni who are top corporate leaders, according to the
1996 independent Standard & Poor's survey of 70,000 business executives.
- CUNY has held the No.1 position since 1990 when it displaced Yale University.
- 75% of the top corporate executives who are CUNY graduates live and
work in the New York metropolitan area. They are responsible for employing
tens of thousands of workers within the region.
CUNY Graduates Stay in New York
- About 425,000 of CUNY 1970-95 graduates are still in New York State,
along with hundreds of thousands of previous graduates, 205,000 current
students, and 150,000 adult and continuing education students. Estimates
based on surveys of students who graduated in the last quarter century
indicate:

- Each year The City University of New York graduates students well-prepared
to fill the critical jobs waiting for them in expanding occupational sectors.
- With CUNY colleges representing just 15 percent of bachelors degree-granting
institutions and 21 percent of associate degree-granting institutions in
New York City, CUNY awards nearly 41 percent of four-year degrees, and
more than 55 percent of two-year degrees.
- In 1995, CUNY graduated 840 teachers with baccalaureate degrees and
offered advanced degrees in education to another 2,267 teachers.
- Nearly 2,400 health care workers graduated from the University in 1995,
including physicians, nurses, physical therapists, laboratory technicians
and community health workers.
- CUNY graduates approximately 500 engineers, 490 MBAs and 485 MPAs each
year.
- U.S. News and World Report ranked the clinical training program
at the CUNY Law School eighth in the nation.
- Hunter College's School of Social Work (the only public program in
New York City) was ranked tenth in the nation by the same publication.
- According to the report of the National Research Council, more than
a third of the Graduate School's rated doctoral programs rank among the
nation's 20 best.
- CUNY founded the first Family College in the nation. The program helps
welfare recipients study for an associate's degree to prepare for a career
while their children attend an elementary school on campus. Family Colleges
are in operation at Kingsborough, Bronx, and LaGuardia Community Colleges.
- Baruch College has the largest collegiate School of Business in the
United States. It is ranked among the most eminent business schools in
the country by leading business publications and accreditation agencies.
