New York City College of Technology

CUNY's sole college of technology, City Tech has been a model of excellence in urban education since its founding in 1946 as New York State Institute of Applied Arts and Sciences. Offering a host of new and innovative programs, City Tech is a pioneering force in higher education.

Known informally as City Tech, New York City College of Technology enrolls over 13,500 students in 57 baccalaureate and associate degree programs. It also enrolls about 15,000 students annually through its Division of Continuing Education and External Partnerships. City Tech programs are designed to anticipate emerging employment trends in the city, state, and nation, not just to follow them.

City Tech is located at the foot of the Brooklyn Bridge, adjacent to the MetroTech Center academic and commercial complex, a two-minute walk from bus and subway lines serving the Downtown Brooklyn area.

  • By combining specialized education in the technologies and liberal arts study, City Tech connects students to extraordinary career opportunities. The unique City Tech curriculum helps students prepare for challenging, high-level professional opportunities, not merely for technical jobs.
  • City Tech offers innovative degree programs in business, hospitality/culinary arts, computer-related fields, engineering technologies, health fields, design, public service and other areas where technology is a key to success. Many City Tech programs are unique within CUNY and some are offered nowhere else in the New York City area.
  • City Tech's caring, committed faculty work side-by-side with students, fostering a strong sense of community and creating an ideal blend of the hands-on and the theoretical.
  • Many faculty members have a successful professional background in business and industry, providing students with the benefit of extensive real-world experience. Their close ties to industry often lead to student internships and permanent employment.
  • Students and faculty members come from more than 100 countries and speak more than 60 languages. For four of the last five years, US News & World Report has called City Tech the most diverse comprehensive baccalaureate college in the Northeast.
  • The college is an active partner in the renaissance of Downtown Brooklyn and the MetroTech business district. Students have many opportunities to get involved in the life of the community.
  • Students find it easy to reinforce academic skills and gain career experience by taking advantage of various business and community assistance programs and research opportunities at prestigious national science laboratories, and through credit-bearing internships.
  • City Tech is a leader in the development of model programs, such as those provided by the Center for Intergenerational Reading, which has made family literacy a priority throughout the city.
  • A City Tech degree is a passport to success! The college has produced more than 77,000 graduates, many of whom have remained in the greater New York area and contribute to its economic and professional vitality, including more than 1,000 graduates who are or have been corporate CEOs or business owners.
  • Innovative programs in the Division of Continuing Education and External Partnerships provide businesses with employees who have strong technical and management skills.
The College is engaged in an ambitious program of expanding and improving its facilities, to better serve its students and to allow for continued growth.
