Queensborough Community College

Queensborough Community College, a college of The City University of New York, was established in 1960, as a public, two-year degree granting institution of higher education. More than 13,000 students are currently enrolled in an associate degree or certificate program at Queensborough Community College, and another 10,000 students attend continuing education programs.  Accredited by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education, Queensborough Community College offers the Associate in Arts (A.A.), the Associate in Science (A.S.) and the Associate in Applied Science (A.A.S.) degrees.

Students come to the College from throughout New York City and its boroughs as well as from more than 120 countries and 46% speak a language other than English at home.  The ethnicity of the student body is almost evenly split among African Americans, Asians, Caucasians and Latinos.

Students come to Queensborough to get a start --- to transfer to four-year colleges or universities or to obtain the necessary skills for career advancement.  Queensborough students quickly discover that they are part of a community of teachers and peers who believe in fostering a culture of academic excellence while being nurtured as an individual in a supportive atmosphere. They are invited to join in Queensborough’s collaborative learning environment wherein first year, full-time students enroll in Academies, participate in learning communities, create e-portfolios, and engage in milestone and capstone activities.

Queensborough Community College, as one of the eleven hundred community colleges across the country, is building its reputation as a national leader in the field of research in community college pedagogy and its academic programs are renowned across the city and state and, in several cases, nationwide. Programs like these can largely be attributed to the academic excellence of Queensborough’s faculty --- almost 60% hold the doctoral degree or its equivalent, as compared to the national community college average of 20%.

The College is also dedicated to providing cultural and artistic opportunities to students and the community through its Performing Arts Center, Art Gallery and the Harriet and Kenneth Kupferberg Holocaust Resource Center and Archives --- all of which are used as learning laboratories for Queensborough students and are integrated into the college’s curriculum.

“Extraordinary things are happening at Queensborough Community College…they are the culmination of extraordinary efforts by all of those who touch the institution. We have built a strong foundation in our past efforts, and continue to move forward, innovating new and better ways to serve our students, who are the focus of all that we do at the College.” – Dr. Eduardo J. Martí, President
