Bronx Community College was founded in 1957 and is celebrating its 50 th Anniversary. The first class of students enrolled in 1959. In 1973, it moved to its present location on the 53-acre University Heights campus, which also houses The Hall of Fame for Great Americans. By fostering intellectual exploration in the classroom and beyond, the College encourages students to be creative and analytical thinkers and financially independent and responsible citizens. Degrees offered at Bronx Community College include Associate's degrees in the liberal arts and sciences, the health sciences, business, and public service occupations. Among the current degree offerings are media technology, radiologic and nuclear medicine technologies, paralegal studies, pharmaceutical manufacturing technology, a new degree in Dietetics and Nutrition Science and certificate programs in human services for child care workers and automotive technology. The College also provides an excellent counseling program and is especially proud of the comprehensive tutoring available through the academic departments and the writing and mathematics labs.
In addition to the almost 9,000 students serviced on campus, Bronx Community College reaches more than 24,000 members of the community each year, providing evening, Saturday, and extension education for Bronx citizens, including programs for children, the elderly, the disabled, and veterans; career upgrading and job placement assistance for the workforce; and entrepreneurial support and training for small businesses and not-for-profit organizations.
