Offering both liberal arts and career education, the college serves nearly 40,000 credit and non-credit students each year. More than half a million students have attended Kingsborough since it opened its doors in 1963.

Kingsborough offers a number of programs for special populations, including the My Turn program for senior citizens; Family College, which provides public schooling on campus for the children of Kingsborough students who are on public assistance; Weekend College, designed for students interested in pursuing their educational studies in the evenings and on weekends; and College for Kids, which offers elementary school students academic, developmental, and enrichment classes as well as recreational activities on weekends during the school year and throughout the summer. Kingsborough on-campus collaborations with the New York City Department of Education include the Leon M. Goldstein High School for the Sciences and the innovative Kingsborough Early College Secondary School. College Now, a unique partnership with area high schools, was developed at Kingsborough and is now replicated throughout the city.

Located on the southern tip of Brooklyn, the 70-acre oceanfront campus overlooks Sheepshead Bay, Jamaica Bay and the Atlantic Ocean and attracts thousands of visitors to the campus for summer music festivals and concerts as well as for its year-round Children’s Theatre performances, art gallery exhibits, best-selling author series, cultural events, lectures, and conferences. The campus boasts a number of special facilities that are used both by the college and the community, including a 12,000 square foot conference and dining facility (“The Rotunda at Kingsborough”), a 743-seat Performing Arts Center, a 300-seat Playhouse, a 1,600 square foot Art Gallery, and extensive athletic facilities and playing fields.

The vast array and quality of offerings, the excellence of the faculty, and the extensive student support services and activities contribute to a student centered learning environment for both the traditional college student as well as the non-traditional adult learner.
