Borough President James P. Molinaro

Dear Friends:

I would like to extend my greetings to the Board of Trustees of the City University of New York (CUNY) as you join together at the Staten Island Borough hearing.

A world-renowned network of the finest academic resources available, CUNY has developed some of the greatest minds in history, cultivating gifted business executives, entertainers, scientists, government officials and leaders in countless other disciplines. In particular, the College of Staten Island (CSI) has become a tremendous source of pride for the residents of my Borough, offering its 12,600 students a wide choice of exciting programs, and most importantly, the opportunity to stimulate their intellects and enhance their futures. Indeed, it would be impossible to estimate the enormous positive impact CSI has had in providing Staten Islanders with the best academic opportunities possible, thereby expanding their understanding of the world and broadening their horizons.

The Board of Trustees is gathered this evening to make crucial decisions affecting the future growth of CSI and the entire City University system. Now, more than ever, as we face new challenges in an uncertain and unpredictable world, the Board plays a vital role in furthering both the academic interests of the individual and the progress of our society. With its support, CSI will continue to move forward in improving the standard of education for all.

I am pleased to welcome the Board of Trustees to Staten Island. I ask only that throughout your discussions, you bear in mind the hopes, dreams and limitless potential of the countless students who have and who will continue to flourish through a CUNY education.
