York College

York College, founded in 1966, is a senior college of The City University of New York (CUNY), offering baccalaureate degrees in the liberal arts and sciences, accounting and business, communications technology, computer science, social work, aviation management, teacher education and various health professions. York College is the only CUNY senior college offering majors in gerontology, biotechnology, information systems management and a BS/MS degree in occupational therapy. The liberal arts and science programs include an English major in Journalism with a Fieldwork component; a Biotechnology major; a federal grant supported program to promote minorities in science; Women’s Studies; Medical Technology, upper division Nursing Program; a Teacher Education program leading to New York City and State Certification; and pre-medical, pre-law, pre-dental, and pre-engineering curricula. York College is the only branch of CUNY with a regional Food and Drug Administration (FDA) facility on campus including state-of-the-art research labs.

York College offers various Scholars Programs, which include the Aviation Management Scholarship Program, York College/FDA Scholars Program, Computer and Mathematics Scholar Support Coalition (CMSSC), York College Honors Program, York College Foundation Scholarships, Peter F. Vallone Academic Scholarship and the Teacher Academy.

York’s academic facilities include a large microcomputer center, a campus-wide wireless computing environment; a state-of-the-art electronic music studio and computer graphics lab; a television production studio; and a modern, well-equipped library. The Performing Arts Center Auditorium seats 1,500; the Physical Education facility includes a gymnasium, Olympic-size swimming pool and athletic fields; there are 1,000 parking spaces as well as a child care center available only to students’ children.

The 50-acre campus is centrally located amid the most ethnically diverse neighborhood in the country and is easily accessible by car, bus, subway and the Long Island Railroad.
