Bylaws

DEFINITIONS
"Board" shall mean the Board of Trustees of the City University of New York.
"Department" means an instructional department of a college or a Ph.D. program in the Graduate School and University Center; if the instructional work of the college is organized into divisions, it shall mean a division.
"Department chairperson" shall be deemed to include a department head as such title is used in the community college.
"Instructional staff" titles in the community colleges shall be deemed to have included therein and be preceded by the phrase community college.
"Tenure" is the right of a person to hold his/her position during good behavior and efficient and competent service, and not to be removed therefrom except for cause in the manner provided for in these bylaws.
"Senior college" shall mean a four-year college, an upper division college, or the Graduate School and University Center.
"Community college" shall mean a two-year college offering associate degrees.
"College" shall be deemed to include a senior college, a community college, or the Graduate School and University Center.
"President" shall be deemed to include the chancellor, the president of a college, or anyone acting in such capacity as the sense of the provision may be appropriate.
"Educational unit" shall mean a senior college, a community college, the university staff, or the Graduate School and University Center.
"Promotion" is an advancement from a title on the permanent instructional staff to another title on the permanent instructional staff requiring increased responsibility and salary.
