WHO is eligible?

ASAP is recruiting talented New York City students and working adults who are prepared for the challenge of college work.

  • Did you just finish high school with a strong academic record and a desire to secure your future?
  • Are you a hardworking parent determined to provide a better future for yourself and your children?
  • Did you once complete your GED, or finish less than a twelve credits of college work, and are now eager to take the next step?

If so, ASAP could be perfect for you.

WHAT is ASAP?

The ASAP program was developed as part of Mayor Bloomberg’s Commission for Economic Opportunity Agenda. It seeks to create a new model for the education and advancement of highly motivated community college students and working adults who are prepared to complete a college degree.  Each of the six CUNY community colleges will admit qualified students who are expected to graduate with an Associate’s degree in a promising field in no more than three years.

WHERE does ASAP operate?

All six CUNY community colleges have ASAP programs on their campuses.

  • Borough of Manhattan Community College – Chambers St., Manhattan
  • Bronx Community College – West 181st Street & University Ave, Bronx
  • Hostos Community College – 500 Grand Concourse, Bronx
  • Kingsborough Community College – Oriental Blvd., Brooklyn
  • LaGuardia Community College – Long Island City
  • Queensborough Community College – Bayside, Queens

WHEN does ASAP begin?

Each CUNY community college will offer a 2007 pre-college summer program to orient students to ASAP, introduce them to faculty and advisors, and provide any necessary remediation. Full-time college study will begin in September 2007. Each college will offer several different programs of study in block schedules so that students can attend all their classes in a defined period of time that coordinates most conveniently with their work and other responsibilities.

WHY ASAP?

Many community college students are not able to complete their Associates degrees, due to a variety of stresses. ASAP helps to eliminate these stresses by providing select community college students with the academic, social, and financial support they need to graduate with an Associate in Arts or Associate in Applied Science degree in no more than three years.

HOW do I apply?

There is no special application for ASAP.  Prospective students who may be appropriate candidates for ASAP should apply to CUNY immediately.  You can submit the CUNY application via the web for online admissionOR you may visit the community college of your choice to apply in-person for direct admission.  If you choose to apply in-person, first visit the college's website for application information and hours of operation.  After you have submitted your CUNY application, the college will verify your eligibility for ASAP and contact you with further details.
