About Us
|
As with any great university, teaching, research, and public service are the hallmarks of The City University of New York. In order to foster its research mission, the purpose of the research arm of the Office of Academic Affairs is to encourage and develop first-class research initiatives. Increasingly pro-active, the Office of Academic Affairs identifies relevant calls for proposals and helps to coordinate faculty teams to work on collaborative proposals. By drawing on the expertise and facilities across the entire University, proposals are significantly strengthened and made more competitive. The Office of Academic Affairs also issues requests for proposals whose purpose is to develop research projects that can be used as the basis of proposals to external agencies. These include: (1) the Collaborative Incentive Research Grant Program wherein we grant awards to faculty in order to further inter-campus collaborations; (2) Equipment Grants wherein awards are made to fund needed research equipment to gather data for future grant proposals. Consistent with the Chancellor’s vision of a Flagship Environment across the University, we are in the midst of major initiatives in photonics, in the biosciences (more specifically, cell signaling, macromolecular assemblies, and neuroscience), and in areas related to the urban environment. Flagship programs that build on strengths across the colleges will continue to emerge from ongoing discussions with the faculty. |
