CUNY+ Courtesy Discharge

As of March 1, 1994, all University Libraries (except the Law School) participate in a service made possible by the book-tracking capabilities of CUNY+: Courtesy Discharge.

Courtesy Discharge, also known as Universal Book Return, further encourages students and faculty to consider the University's libraries as a single system by permitting borrowers to return a book borrowed from any CUNY library to any other CUNY library. (The policy applies only to standard loan materials: reserve materials, inter-library loan materials, and electronic media must be returned to the lending library.)

Overdue fines may be paid at any library that has fully implemented the CUNY+ circulation system (currently, all but four colleges).

This new service is a big success. In March, the first month of operation, over 1,700 books were returned via Courtesy Discharge. By May, the number increased to nearly 9,000 books.
