More than 15,000 students at Brooklyn College can now use electronic mail, thanks to a project sponsored by the College with the help of CUNY/CIS. Using Microsoft Exchange as the server, students may access their mail from campus or any Internet-accessible PC worldwide via web browsers, a POP mail client or with a MS Exchange client. A permanent disk storage allotment allows mail to be stored as well as organized into folders. Students received notification of the new service along with instructions on its use via US mail. Accounts are activated by pointing to the appropriate WWW URL which uses SIMS data to verify personal information. The new system's use is explained in weekly orientation seminars and help is available from the Brooklyn College Support Center. Approximately 275 mail-enabled workstations are available in the library, the Atrium, and various computer labs on campus.
