CUNY is issuing an open call for design submissions for the new CUNYCard from CUNY faculty, staff, and students. The chosen design will be acknowledged in the Fall 1996 issue of FYeI. Although the card will have a number of mandatory elements, features such as fonts, size of type, color and the relation of the elements to each other will be up to the designer, as will the background image against which the elements appear.
Required text elements
* the word CUNYCard
* Campus Name: e.g., Brooklyn College (Note: the college mailing address will appear on the back of the card, not on the front.)
* Cardholder's Name: (The format should be Last, First Middle)
* CUNY status: (e.g., undergraduate student, faculty, staff)
* CUNYCard identification number: (16 digits divided into 4 equal groups as follows: 1111 1111 1111 1111)
* Library number: (14 digits divided into 4 groups of 1, 4, 5, and 4 digits as follows: 1 1111 11111 1111). It should be preceded by the prefix LIB#:
Note: Both a cardholder's name or a college name can be lengthy. The fields provided for these elements should be designed to run across the full width of the card when necessary, and the fields cannot overlap the cardholder's photograph.
Required graphic elements
* Cardholder's Photo: a digitized image; it can be square or rectangular
* CUNY logo: (available in TIFF format at each college. Call the CUNY/CIS Support Center at (212) 541-0981 for further information.)
* Card Background: the background against which the text and graphic elements appear can be a photograph or a graphic design or solid color. A single design will be used on cards for all CUNY campuses, so the image chosen should not reflect a specific CUNY campus.
Other considerations
* the card design may be vertically- or horizontally-oriented.
* in order to distinguish between 4 different CUNY status categories of cardholders (student, faculty, staff or other), 4 different color variations of the card will be issued. The design should be submitted in all 4 colors.

May 31, 1996 is the deadline for receipt of submissions, which should be sent on diskette to CUNYCard, CUNY/CIS, 555 West 57th Street, New York, New York 10019. Please include printed copies of the final images.
