The Importance of Teacher Excellence

Much of the education research has been focusing on teachers, and specifically on teachers’ impact on student success. Several recent landmark publications such as Teaching at Risk (The Teaching Commission, 2004), Teachers Matter: Attracting, Developing and Retaining Effective Teachers (Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development, 2005) and Teaching Inequality: How Poor and Minority Students are Shortchanged on Teacher Quality (The Education Trust, 2006) reinforce the concept that good teaching matters.
