STEP 1: Welcome Letter & Required Forms
This section describes the various letters and forms you will receive once you have been accepted to a CUNY college. |

STEP 2: Form I-20 & DS-2019
The I-20, which you will receive if you are going to be an F-1 student, and the DS-2019, which you will receive if you are going to be a J-1 exchange visitor, are extremely important documents for international students. |

STEP 3: Letter Accompanying I-20 & DS-2019
The letter accompanying your I-20 or DS-2019 will contain instructions on applying for your visa and obtaining immigration status. |

STEP 4: SEVIS Fee
Unless you are already in the U.S. in F-1 or J-1 status, you must pay a SEVIS fee of $200 for F-1 and $180 for J-1 before you can apply for a visa.

STEP 5: Consulate Appointment
Once you have received your I-20 or DS-2019 and your SEVIS fee payment has been processed, you will need to go to a U.S. consulate in your country to apply for a student visa. |

STEP 6: U.S. Entry
Once you receive your visa, you will be ready to enter the U.S.

STEP 7: Reporting to the College
Within 10 days of your arrival in the U.S., you must report to your college's insternational student services office and meet with your international student advisor (called a "DSO" or "RO"). |
