Tentative Contract Agreement Reached

The City University of New York is pleased to announce a tentative agreement with District Council 37 and its affiliated Locals 384, 2054, 2627, 1407, 375, 1597, 1797, 983; International Brotherhood of Teamsters, Local 237; Service Employees International Union, Local 300; and the International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees, Local 306. This tentative agreement is subject to approval by the University’s Board of Trustees and the membership of the unions. The key elements of the agreement are:

Term: Four-year agreement

DC37: October 1, 2002, through September 30, 2006

IBT Local 237, SEIU Local 300, and IATSE Local 306: July 1, 2002, through June 30, 2006

Wage Increases

$800 lump sum cash payment per full-time employee on active pay status on the date of ratification; pro rata amount for less than full-time employees.

2.5% across-the-board increase on the first day of the 13th month

2.75% across-the-board increase on the first day of the 25th month

2% across-the-board increase on the first day of the 37th month (1% of which is to be funded through productivity savings mutually agreed upon by the parties)

1% across-the-board increase on the last day of the contract

Welfare Fund Rate Increase:

$100 rate increase per annum for full-time employees; and a pro rata amount for less than full-time employees, effective 4/1/05

$100 rate increase per annum for full-time employees; and a pro rata amount for less than full-time employees, effective 4/1/06

This agreement, covering over 10,000 University employees, is a significant breakthrough in the University’s negotiations with its unions in this round of bargaining. Negotiations continue with the Professional Staff Congress/CUNY, the union that represents the University’s faculty and professional staff, and two classified staff unions representing fewer than 100 employees.
