Federal Legislation For Young Adult Coverage To Age 26

November 2010

The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA) specifies that extension of dependent coverage for children under the age of 26 is effective for plan years beginning on or after September 23, 2010.

Under the PPACA, the City of New York Health Benefits Program will implement this coverage on July 1, 2011 which is the beginning of the City plan year. More information concerning eligibility and enrollment will be provided closer to that date. Employees must contact their respective Union Welfare Funds (PSC or DC37) directly to determine how those benefits may be impacted by this legislation.
