In accord with the Federal Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA), the City of New York now offers all employees the opportunity to include their young adult dependents (up to age 26) under their health benefits coverage.
If you missed the Special Open Enrollment period in May 2011, you may to enroll your young adult dependent under your health benefits coverage during 2011 open enrollment period from November 1 through November 30, 2011.
Changes made during the Open Enrollment Period will become effective January 12, 2012 and will be reflected on your January 26, 2012 paycheck. If you are an Executive Compensation Plan employee, changes will be reflected on your February 9, 2012 paycheck since you are on a lag payroll schedule.
You must also complete and submit a NYC Health Benefits Application to add your young adult dependent.
All health benefits applications must be submitted to Central Office Human Resources by Wednesday, November 30, 2011.
If you are adding your young adult dependent to your coverage and currently have an individual plan, your health insurance premium will change from an individual plan to a family plan.
All applications must be submitted with the child(ren)’s birth certificate(s) and a Young Adult Health Benefits Coverage Eligibility Certification form for each dependent.
