CUNY Tobacco Free Policy

June 2012

The CUNY Tobacco Policy was expanded by the Board of Trustees on January 24, 2011, making CUNY the largest smoke-free public university system in the United States. Effective September 4, 2012, the use of tobacco on all CUNY grounds and facilities, both indoor and outdoor, is prohibited. The ban includes tobacco industry promotions and marketing, as well as tobacco industry sponsorship of athletes and athletic events. Please take a moment to go to Healthy CUNY for information on a Tobacco Free CUNY.

As a reminder, all CUNY faculty and staff are covered by the free, confidential CUNY Work/Life Program administered by Corporate Counseling Associates (CCA).  A team of experienced CCA counselors are available 24/7 to assist you in smoking cessation.  For more information, please visit www.myccaonline.com and use company code CUNY.

In addition, all CUNY employees are eligible for the city-administered Employee Smoking Cessation Program.  ESCAPE is a no-fee confidential service provided to New York City employees who would like to quit smoking. Please call 212-676-2393 or visit their website for further information.
