September 2012

Improve your commute, reduce your carbon footprint, and contribute to a more sustainable CUNY with the 511NY Rideshare Program. CUNY is committed to reducing its greenhouse gas emissions by 30% by the year 2017!  You can do your part to fulfill CUNY’s commitment to sustainability and cleaner air by trying a greener way to commute.  CUNY employees are eligible to receive Free Traveler Services through 511NY Rideshare.  The aim is to provide you with an easy way to get to work and services include customized transit options, ride matching, carpool, and vanpool assistance. To help them better understand your transportation needs, please complete a brief Commuter Survey.

Register today! It’s free and there is no obligation upon registering. Services provided are informational with the purpose of easing employees’ commutes to work. Employees that choose a transportation alternative help to reduce CUNY’s carbon footprint, cut greenhouse gas emissions, and improve air quality in and around New York City.

Traveler Services include:

  • Personalized Carpool and Vanpool Matching – Find people that live and work nearby for a flexible arrangement to ride together.
  • Vanpool Formation – Assistance setting up and matching riders to vanpools, including route planning and driver training. Subsidies are available to reduce vanpool costs.
  • Guaranteed Ride – They’ll get you to the place you need to go by providing a safety net that lets employees’ rideshare without the worry of getting stranded. (Limitations apply.)
  • Transit Options – Personalized assistance planning your trip using public transportation, whether by bus, subway, ferry or train. An alternate transit route is provided for those currently using transit. CUNY offers a pre-tax commuter benefit through WageWorks that makes this an especially viable alternative to driving.

511NY Rideshare helps commuters find and use easy, cost-effective and reliable alternatives to driving alone. They are sponsored by the New York State Department of Transportation. For more information, please visit www.511NYRideshare.org or dial 511 and say “Rideshare”.
