Upcoming Training

January 2013

In order to better assist leaders with the responsibility of evaluating their staff, Central Office Human Resources (COHR) and the Office of Professional Development and Learning Management (PDLM) have contracted with the Citywide Training Center of the New York City Department of Citywide Administrative Services (DCAS) to facilitate four (4) half-day training workshops entitled “Conducting Effective Performance Evaluation Conferences” for this January 2013.  The training workshop is focused on providing tools and techniques to directors, managers and supervisors in both preparing and then meeting with staff to review the performance evaluation.

This practical and hands-on workshop will boost the skills of participants in conducting both interim and yearly feedback evaluation conferences with their staff.  The training will spotlight the core purposes of performance evaluation; the communication skills needed to discuss employee performance and; will emphasize clarifying expectations through specific tasks and standards.

Each session will be a half-day or 3.5 hours; you need only register for one session, not all four.  Moreover, the workshop coincides with the 2013 HEO Series reappointment notifications and the required annual performance evaluations that must be completed and submitted to Human Resources by April 30.

Session 1 (AM): Tuesday, January 29, 2013: 9:15 AM – 12:45 PM

Session 2 (PM): Tuesday, January 29, 2013: 1:30 PM – 5:00 PM

Session 3 (AM): Wednesday, January 30, 2013: 9:15 AM – 12:45 PM

Session 4 (PM): Wednesday, January 30, 2013: 1:30 PM – 5:00 PM

Audience: Leaders who must evaluate staff

Workshop Objectives:
You will learn how to:

  • Identify the core purposes of performance evaluation
  • Practice giving constructive feedback
  • Define common rating errors in the appraisal
  • Conduct difficult appraisals
  • Create development plans as part of the evaluation process

Please discuss your individual training needs with your immediate manager/supervisor and obtain their approval to attend this workshop.
