Civil Rights Images – From Selma to Montgomery

As a 24-year-old physics student at City College and picture editor of the student newspaper, "Main Events," Stephen Somerstein felt a duty to document the historic Selma-to-Montgomery Civil Rights March in 1965.  The result, over the five-day, 54-mile march, was roughly 400 photographs and unfettered access to everyone from Martin Luther King Jr. to Rosa Park to James Baldwin and Bayard Rustin.
