Annual Radiation Safety Seminar Held at Hunter College

The CUNY Office of Environmental Health and Safety (EH&S) held its Annual Radiation Safety Seminar at Hunter College on January 25, 2007 from 9 am to 5 pm. The seminar, designed to satisfy the annual training requirements of the New York City Health Code, Title IV, Section 175, was attended by approximately 100 CUNY faculty and staff members. Ricardo Franco, Director of Environmental Health and Safety at Hunter College co-hosted the event. Dr. Howard Apsan, University Director of CUNY Environmental Health and Safety welcomed attendees and introduced the trainers. The morning session was presented by Pete Capitelli, Director, Office of Health Physics, Weill Medical College of Cornell University and New York Presbyterian Hospital. The afternoon session was presented by Chris Saganich, Senior Physicist at Weill Medical College of Cornell University and New York Presbyterian Hospital. The full day of training on radiation safety included a review of the regulations, radioactive hazards, storage, personal protection, emergency procedures, record-keeping, workers rights, and related topics. CUNY EH&S plans to hold the annual seminar at different campuses each January.
