CUNY encourages all of its students, faculty and staff to follow winter safety tips as offered by the New York State Emergency Management Office (SEMO). These include being aware of common weather-related terms, having a family disaster plan and emergency supplies available, winterizing your home, staying warm, protecting water pipes, preparing for lapses in the electric grid, and understanding carbon monoxide and fire safety. Also addressed by SEMO are ways to assist children, neighbors and pets in need, as well as employing safe winter driving habits and staying healthy while being active outdoors in very cold temperatures. For detailed advice and information about these tips, visit the SEMO Winter Safety Tips website (http://www.semo.state.ny.us/info/publicsafety/winter_safety_tips.cfm).
