The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) recently issued an updated Hazard Communication Standard (HCS) that is aligned with the United Nations’ Globally Harmonized System of Classification and Labeling of Chemicals (GHS). Changes to the standard include revised definitions, additional label elements and standardization of Safety Data Sheets. Employees must be trained on the new label elements and the Safety Data Sheet format by December 1, 2013.  Additional information on the new OSHA Haz Com Standard may be found at http://www.osha.gov/dsg/hazcom/index.html.
