CUNY Honors 155 Faculty Winners of Top National and International Awards

November 20, 1998 | The University

The City University of New York honored 155 distinguished faculty members– scholars and researchers — who won prestigious national and international awards and recognition inthe past year at a reception Nov. 16 at the Pierpont Morgan Library in Manhattan.

The honorees, who represent CUNY’s Graduate School, 10 senior colleges and three community colleges, have received major competitive research grants, fellowships and other outstanding awards from organizations that include the U.S. Justice Department, NASA, the National Science Foundation, the National Institutes of Health, the Rockefeller, Kellogg, and Carnegie foundations and the American Academy of Rome. The CUNY honorees’ groundbreaking works span diverse academic fields including nuclear physics, geology, music, marine physics, anthropology, psychology, literature, astronomy, and medicine.

Among the distinguished speakers at the reception were CUNY Board of Trustees Chairwoman Anne A. Paolucci, herself a poet and widely published scholar, and Interim Chancellor Christoph M. Kimmich, a prominent historian.
