Joint Statement by Chairman Herman Badillo and Chancellor Matthew Goldstein on the Approval of The City University of New York Master Plan 2000-2004 by the New York State Board of Regents

September 15, 2000 | The University

We are deeply gratified by the approval of The City University of New York Master Plan 2000-2004 by the New York State Board of Regents. We commend Chancellor Carl T. Hayden, Commissioner Richard P. Mills, and all of the members of the Board of Regents for their diligence and support of the University.

As we move forward to implement the Master Plan, we will continue to work closely with the many constituencies that profoundly care about the mission of CUNY and our collective efforts to help realize the educational goals of New Yorkers. This will include opportunities for dialogue both within and outside the academic community and working together to obtain the necessary resources consistent with the objectives of the Master Plan.

The City University of New York system is making substantial progress in many areas in order to provide the highest quality education possible to our student body. Our partnership programs with the public schools are a fundamental part of the many improvements underway. As we strive to bring to bear the extraordinary assets of this great public urban university system to the people of New York City and State, the vote of confidence we received today from the Board of Regents will very much help us continue the progress.
