CUNY Chairman Herman Badillo’s Letter of Resignation to Governor Pataki

June 5, 2002 | The University

Dear Governor Pataki:

I hereby submit my resignation as Chairman and Member of the Board of Trustees of the City University of New York. As you know, I am running for Mayor of the City of New York and I am circulating my nomination petitions beginning today.

During the past two years since you appointed me Chairman, dramatic changes have taken place at the City University. It has gone from “An Institution Adrift” which is what it was characterized by the Schmidt report to an “Institution on the Move.” I shall always be proud of what has been accomplished and I am grateful to you for your support.

I hope that the changes that we have brought about will be maintained in future years so that the City University continues to be the university of opportunity for the people of New York City.

Sincerely,

Herman Badillo
