Brooklyn, NY — Brooklyn College’s annual Veterans’ Day ceremonies, sponsored by the Veteran Students’ Organization and the Veterans’ Day Program Committee will be held on Thursday, November 10, from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m.
The ceremony begins on the Quadrangle at 1:30 p.m. to salute the fallen soldiers from CUNY with the posting of the colors. The Brooklyn VA Men’s Quartet will sing the National Anthem, and a roll call will be read by C Company of 1-69th Infantry, a New York Army National Guard battalion based in Manhattan. A luncheon will follow immediately in the Brooklyn College Student Center.
This year’s ceremonies salute the contribution of our military personnel who are currently serving overseas and honor the soldiers from the City University of New York (CUNY) who died in service in Iraq. These include Army Spc Segun Frederick Akintade (New York City Technical College), Army Pfc Francis C. Obaji (College of Staten Island), Army Pfc James E. Prevete (Queens College), and Army Pfc Min Soo Choi (John Jay College). The keynote speaker at the luncheon is Senator Kevin Parker, from the 21st District, Brooklyn, New York.
The event is sponsored by the Brooklyn College Office of Affirmative Action, Compliance, and Diversity, Brooklyn College Division of Student Life and Student Affairs, Brooklyn College Panamanian Students’ Organization, CUNY Veterans Affairs Liaison Steering Committee, New York City College of Technology Student Life and Development, the Brooklyn VA Men’s Quartet, the soldiers of C Company, 1-69th Infantry, Veterans Affairs and Counseling Center, and the Barnes & Noble Student Life Fund.
