New York City Prospective Firefighters Can Take Exam Prep Courses At Bronx Community College

Bronx, NY — Bronx Community College (BCC) of The City University of New York will hold an information session on the upcoming Firefighter Examinations and preparatory courses to be offered at BCC in January, February and March of 2006. Individuals with questions should come to Philosophy Hall, Tuesday, December 6th from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m., Philosophy Hall / Room 14, at Bronx Community College, 181st and University Avenue.

Preparation classes begin on the following dates — January 11 and 14, February 22 and 25, and March 11, 18, and 25. Officers of the New York City Fire Department will teach the course. Orientation for the physical examination will also be held on March 11 and 18.

Candidates for Firefighter status must be at least 171/2 years old and under 29 years old. The starting salary and benefits are more than $41,000, rising to almost $60,000 after five years. Also included for each Firefighter is a good medical plan, a flexible schedule to pursue additional education, a generous pension and excellent promotional opportunities.
