Brooklyn, NY — Congratulations to New York City College of Technology freshmen Dyshea Smiley and Jamaal Hall, who earned CUNYAC/Con Ed “Rookie of the Week” awards following their recent basketball opening weekend tournament performances. Each is the youngest members of their respective teams.
Freshman Dyshea Smiley, a 5’6″ guard and Bronx Leadership graduate, is off to a promising start after averaging 19.0 points and 6.0 steals in a pair of contests at the College of New Rochelle Tip-Off Tournament the third weekend in November. The Manhattan native opened her City Tech basketball career with 14 points, four steals and four assists against Polytechnic University, following that up with 24 points and eight steals against Maritime. She also drained four of her 10 attempts from three-point range against Maritime.
Brooklyn freshman Jamaal Hall stepped right into a starting role and enjoyed a strong performance at the Mount St. Mary Tournament on opening weekend. The 5’11” point guard scored 20 points (6-for-11 FG, 6-for-6 FT) and handed out four assists in the first-round victory over Purchase on Friday, November 18.
The Benjamin Banneker graduate, who was named to the All-Tournament Team, added nine points and four assists in the championship game against Mount St. Mary.
