Kingsborough Community College Alumna
Named Public Relations Director
Brooklyn, N.Y., November 1 – Kingsborough Community College, the only community college located in the Borough of Brooklyn, announced today that Ruby Ryles has joined the college as director of public relations.
We are pleased to welcome Ruby, a Kingsborough Community College alumna, to our management team. We believe that her broad and extensive public relations experience will be an immense asset to the college and will enable it to communicate more effectively with the public it serves,â€ said Dr. Regina Peruggi, president of Kingsborough Community College.
In her capacity as public relations director, Ms. Ryles will report directly to Dr. Peruggi and will be responsible for the planning and execution of strategic communications between the college and its internal and external constituencies, particularly the local and national media.
â€œI am thrilled to return to Kingsborough Community College to promote greater public understanding and awareness of its unique contribution to higher education, its academic strengths and its outstanding faculty and students,â€ said Ryles.
Ms. Ryles brings more than twenty-five years of public relations experience to her position. Prior to joining Kingsborough Community College, she was an independent public relations consultant, a media directory publisher and deputy press secretary for form New York City Mayor David N. Dinkins. Ms. Ryles previously served as deputy commissioner for public relations for the New York City Department of Correction and assistant commissioner for public relations for the New York State Department of Correctional Services, the first female and African-American to serve in those capacities.
Ms. Ryles also served as director of public relations for the American Correction Association, a volunteer position, and as a member of the board of directors of the New York Chapter of the Public Relations Society of America.
Ms. Ryles holds a Master of Arts in public relations from the Syracuse University Newhouse School of Public Communications, a Bachelor of Science in liberal studies from the University of the State of New York and an Associate of Applied Science in public administration from Kingsborough Community College.
