Lehman Jazz Band Celebrates the Music of Count Basie with Free Concert December 6

BRONX, NY— The Lehman College Big Band will give a free concert on Wednesday, December 6, at 12:30 p.m., in the Music Building’s Hearth Room. Distinguished Lecturer and noted tubist Bob Stewart will lead the band in “Basically Basie,” a program celebrating the music of the legendary Count Basie, along with other great twentieth-century jazz composers and arrangers. This event is open to the public.

Tenor saxophonist Aaron Sachs, who has performed with Benny Goodman and Buddy Rich, will join the band for a special performance.

Professor Stewart has been a professional tuba player for over 35 years and has performed and recorded with artists like Dizzy Gillespie, Charles Mingus, McCoy Tyner and Wynton Marsalis. He has also recorded three of his own albums for JMT and Postcard Records.

A senior college of the City University of New York, Lehman is located at Goulden Avenue and Bedford Park Boulevard in the northwest Bronx and is accessible by bus as well as the #4 and “D” subway lines. Free attended parking is also available.
