CUNY TV Presents a Tribute to Lew Rudin

CUNY Chancellor Matthew Goldstein announced the airing of a special annual Fourth of July tribute to Lew Rudin featuring the documentary, The Lew Rudin Way. This program is preceded by an interview on City Talk with Lew Rudin’s son Bill Rudin.

“In honor of Lew Rudin, the founding chairman of CUNY’s Business Leadership Council, longtime friend of CUNY, and the embodiment of the ‘American Dream,’ CUNY TV will air this special annually during the July 4 holiday,” stated Chancellor Goldstein.

The Lew Rudin Way narrated by Sidney Poitier, highlights the history of the Rudin family, Russian immigrants of modest means, and the contributions of Lew Rudin, a native New Yorker who rose to become one of New York’s major builders and real estate owners. The 60-minute documentary won a 2007 New York Emmy after its debut on NBC-TV. In 1971, Rudin organized the Association for a Better New York, (ABNY) a consortium of New York business and political leaders designed to address problems and issues affecting the overall economic health of the city. The Rudin family continues its dedication to improving New York City as a place to live, work and visit. Directed by David Hoffman, the film provides a loving tribute to the man known as “Mr. New York” and his significant contributions to New York City, culminating in the 2002 unveiling of Lew Rudin Way at Park Avenue and 52nd Street.

Hosted by Professor Doug Muzzio, City Talk is CUNY TV ‘s forum for politics and public affairs, presenting lively discussion of New York City issues with the people that help make the city function. In this special episode, Bill Rudin, president of Rudin Management Co., chairman of ABNY and son of the late Lew Rudin, joins Doug Muzzio for a discussion about the life and legacy of his real estate mogul father, illustrating how his family name became synonymous with the act of giving back to the New York community.

A Tribute to Lew Rudin airs Wednesday, July 4 at 9:30 A.M., 4:30 P.M., and 9:30 P.M. as well as Saturday, July 7 at 3:30 P.M.
