The York College Male Initiative Program will pay tribute to former New York City Mayor David Dinkins at its 2nd Annual Men of Achievement Recognition Program Thursday, February 7, 2008, at 5:00 p.m. at the college’s Performing Arts Center, 94-45 Guy R. Brewer Blvd., Jamaica, NY. NY1’s News Anchor Dominic Carter will be the evening’s host.
The purpose of the York College Male Initiative Program and Men’s Center is to provide a system of support, through various resources, that contribute to the improvement of enrollment and graduation rates of male students. A coordinated effort to recruit males from various areas in the community is one of the center’s main goals. The other main goal is to provide various systems of support that lead to degree completion. The cornerstone of the program is the Mentoring Program, in which male students have the opportunity to interact with other male role models such as faculty, staff and community leaders.

Charles Norris Sr.; York College Student Jahi Rose and Timothy Johnson, York College Office of Admissions.
