STATEMENT BY PRESIDENT REGINA PERUGGI ON THE DEATH OF STUDENT YOUZDJAN BEKIR

May 12, 2008 | Kingsborough Community College

I speak for the entire Kingsborough Community College community when I say how deeply saddened we are by the tragic death of Kingsborough student Youzdjan Bekir. Our hearts go out to his family and friends, as we share their grief and sadness. At approximately 12:40 p.m., Thursday, May 8, as Mr. Bekir left the campus by motorcycle, he collided with a car making a left turn on to Irwin Street. He was taken to Coney Island Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

It is our priority to provide support for Mr. Bekir’s grief-stricken family and Kingsborough students affected by this tragic event. Counseling is available in D-102 for students or any member of the Kingsborough community who may need help in dealing with their feelings of grief and shock.

This tragedy, claiming the life of one of our students, impacts us all deeply. Please continue to keep his family and friends in your thoughts and prayers.
