Kingsborough Places Fourth at NJCAA Division III Men’s Tennis Championships

Dr. Regina Peruggi, president, Kingsborough Community College (KCC), today announced that the KCC men’s tennis team placed fourth in the National Junior College Athletic Association’s Division III Men’s Tennis Championships with a score of 21 team points.

With a 7-6 (7-5), 6-2 score, defeating Ross Armstrong and Farid Vatan of Montgomery — College-Rockville, KCC’s duo of Haris Redzematovic and Maksim Vergazov were both named All-American after winning the No. 1 doubles flight.

Redamatovic advanced to the finals of the No. 1 singles flight, but finished runner-up to Mercer Community College’s Marc Nichols (6-2, 6-1). Vergazov won the No.2 singles flight, securing the title with a 6-3, 7-6 (7-5) victory over Dupage’s James Winkle. Both were named All-American in singles.

Chris Kim, third singles, won two singles matches and will attend Cornell University. Fourth singles, Roy Gutierrez, won one match at the Nationals. Fifth singles, Andy Cao, and six singles, Yelnar Nurseitov, had outstanding seasons making the all tournament team at the New York State Regionals.
