York College (www.york.cuny.edu) is hosting a New Majors Kick-Off for the Journalism, Nursing and Pharmaceutical Sciences programs Monday, March 9, 2009, from 11:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m., in the Faculty Dining Room, Academic Core Building, 94-20 Guy R. Brewer Blvd., Jamaica, NY. Each major will have a schedule of activities.
The Journalism launch will include an all-star speaker panel including Publisher and Editor-in-Chief Michael Schenkler, Queens Tribune, Senior Executive Editor Robert Sapio, Daily News and Editor-in-Chief Alberto Vourvoulias, El Diario.
The Nursing launch will include an interactive workshop by the Laerdal Medical Corporation (LMC) that will show some of the latest in Simulation Innovation for Nursing Education. LMC provides healthcare solutions to healthcare providers and educators. It offers various products and services for airway management, immobilization, basic life support, advanced life support, patient care, self-directed learning, and medical education.
The Pharmaceutical Sciences launch will include a hands-on classroom experience with Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Microbiologist Dr. Dennis Guilfoyle. He has been working with the FDA for over 30 years and is classified as an FDA national expert. Guilfoyle has co-authored and reviewed several FDA field guidelines for microbiological inspections and has over 26 publications in his area of specialization. Joining him from the FDA will be Angelo Damanti, York College ’08.
