Hostos President Fernandez and Assemblywoman Arroyo to Unveil a Quilted Map of Puerto Rico

On Friday May 8, 2009, President Dolores M. Fernandez and Assemblywoman Carmen E. Arroyo, who represents New York’s 84th District, will unveil a hand-quilted map of Puerto Rico that was designed and executed by the Assemblywoman herself. The ceremony will take place at 11:30 a.m. in the Hostos Community College library, where the map will be on permanent display.

“In addition to her natural gifts for political leadership and public service, Assemblywoman Arroyo also has a creative side that she expresses impressively through this traditional art form,” said President Dolores Fernández. “As Carmen is a proud puertorriqueña and a distinguished alumna of this institution (class of 1978), we are delighted to add this beautiful and meaningful work to the college’s art collection.”

Hostos students, staff, and faculty, the general public, and media representatives are invited to join us on this special occasion. Refreshments will be served.
