President Kathleen Waldron accepted the “Partner of the Year” award on behalf of Baruch College from the Flatiron / 23rd Street Partnership Business Improvement District at its annual meeting held at the College on Thursday, June 4, 2009. In recognition of Baruch College’s “dedication to the improvement” of the Flatiron BID and the surrounding neighborhood, the award honors Baruch as a good neighbor and civic partner to the many and varied business enterprises in the neighborhood.
In the past year, the College has collaborated with the Flatiron BID on a number of projects, most notable last February’s “Rolling with the Punches,” forum which brought together business expertise from the Field Center for Entrepreneurship with local retailers, restaurants and other small business operators. That event was so well received that plans are underway create a second forum this fall for local businesses pursuing creative strategies to weather the current economic downturn. On a number of occasions Baruch College has also lent its space and facilities to the Flatiron BID.
According to Eric Zaretsky, Director of Marketing and Economic Development for the Flatiron BID the Partner award was newly created in 2009 and is presented to individuals or organizations that have partnered with the BID to “affect positive change in the district.”
