More than 100 people from the Gramercy and Flatiron neighborhoods gathered at the Newman Conference Center last month to hear Baruch College President Kathleen Waldron pay tribute to community leaders for their work on behalf of the College. The occasion was the President’s annual Community Reception, which gives local leaders a chance to foster relationships with the college’s senior administration. President Waldron initiated the reception in 2004, when she was appointed as president of the College.
Local Assemblyman Brian Kavanagh (D-74th) was given the “Legislator of the Year” award because of his fervent effort to secure funding for phase one renovation of the Lawrence and Eris Field Building at 17 Lexington Ave. The “Community Partnership” award was presented to members of local Community Board 6, to thank them for their long-standing working relationship with the college to improve the quality of life in the campus vicinity. Some of those positive changes include increased traffic safety measures on E. 24th St. and E. 25th St., with the installation of a new left-hand turn signal.
Among the attendees were members of area organizations such as: State Senator Liz Krueger’s (D-Manhattan) office; the Flatiron Business Improvement District; 23rd Street Association; the Stuyvesant Park Association; and City Year; among others.
