United Arab Emirates Women Return To CUNY Creative Arts Team To Study Innovative American Educational Approach

For the second consecutive summer, the Creative Arts Team (CAT) at The City University of New York will host 12 aspiring young professional women from the United Arab Emirates for a whirlwind, two-week living and learning experience.  This trip represents the third exchange between CUNY, CAT and UAEU.  The partnership began in 2008 with a visit to UAEU by two CAT teaching artists and continued last year with a two-week summer residency at CAT by 12 UAEU students.

The visitors are students and recent graduates of United Arab Emirates University (UAEU), the largest public university in the United Arab Emirates and surrounding region.  Seven of the 12 participated in last summer’s exchange and are returning for an advanced course of study.

The visitors will experience 40 hours of hands-on workshops led by CAT’s senior staff and guest artists and take in a full, City-wide schedule of museum visits, sports events, and performances.  They will also meet a range of successful New York women who may become role models for a nation where women’s roles are rapidly evolving.  Certificates for participation in the program will be awarded by the CUNY School of Professional Studies.

CUNY School of Professional Studies (SPS) serves New York City’s dynamic marketplace by providing timely, innovative and high-quality programs of study designed to address new or unmet needs.  Drawing on CUNY’s nationally and internationally renowned faculty and practitioners, as well as industry and education partners, SPS offers a wide range of graduate and undergraduate programs, including CUNY’s first fully online degree programs.
