Kingsborough Performing Arts Center Presents: Thalia Follies: A Political Cabaret

Kingsborough Performing Arts Center’s season of world-class Dance, Music, Theatre, and Family Shows continues with New York City’s only political cabaret. Symphony Space’s Thalia Follies: A Political Cabaret comes to KPAC on Saturday April 16, 2011 at 8:00 p.m. Brooklyn Borough President Marty Markowitz will make a special guest-starring appearance when he sings his “Bike Lane Cantata!”

“The Thalia Follies will be sure to be our most fun-filled musical event of the season,” stated Anna Becker, Kingsborough Performing Arts Center’s Executive Director. “The Follies creates rich material taken from current events, and combines it with musical favorites, virtuosic Broadway performers. The charm and wit of celebrated host Isaiah Sheffer never fails to evoke gales of laughter from the audience.  This special edition with guest star Brooklyn Borough President Marty Markowitz makes for a completely unique one-night-only engagement.”

THALIA FOLLIES: A POLITICAL CABARET

Symphony Space’s Thalia Follies: A Political Cabaret is New York City’s only political cabaret series, featuring songs and comedy sketches on all the issues New Yorkers hold 

dear.  Always funny and often moving, these original evenings created by Symphony Space’s Founding Artistic Director Isaiah Sheffer with producer Martin Sage are guaranteed to get you talking and laughing.  Sheffer is joined by a cast of cabaret and Broadway stars such as Ivy Austin, David Buskin, Nora York, The Chalks, and more.  Musical Director, Lanny Meyers.

This special edition of The Follies will draw on material from recent Follies productions such as The Midterm Shuffle and Divided We Stumble, as well as classic Follies songs and comedy sketches and brand new material that turn the day’s issues and events into insight and laughter.

Isaiah Sheffer is the founding artistic director of Symphony Space, as well as host and director of Selected Shorts live at Symphony Space, on tour, and on public radio nationwide.  He is also a co-creator of The Thalia Follies political cabaret.
