A team of 17 LaGuardia Community College students competing in a national mathematics contest for two-year colleges, earned the College second place in the northeast region.

Each summer, tens of thousands of people camp in Nevada’s Black Rock Desert to create the countercultural phenomenon famously known as Burning Man, an arts festival named after its spectacular bonfire of a forty-foot tall wooden and neon sculpture of the “Man.” More than 50,000 faithful attendees establish “Black Rock City,” a temporary metropolis dedicated to community, art, “radical self-expression,” and a gift economy. On Monday, November 28, the Center for Urban Environmental Reform (CUER) at CUNY Law organized and hosted a panel to discuss New York State’s plan for Hydraulic Fracturing in the Marcellus Shale, the legal challenges, the environmental threat, and the community response.

The City University of New York has won a grant award from the U.S. Department of Energy for SunShot NY, an aggressive plan to streamline solar installations.
