Queens College’s renowned Evening Readings series presents Colum McCann in conversation with WNYC radio host Leonard Lopate. McCann, who will read from his work, is the award-winning author of the novels Songdogs, This Side of Brightness, Dancer, Zoli and Let the Great World Spin, as well as the collections of short stories, Fishing the Sloe-Black River and Everything in This Country Must.

NEW PALTZ –College of Staten Island President Tomás D. Morales, an alumnus of the State University of New York at New Paltz, will be New Paltz’s 2012 Undergraduate Commencement speaker. He will receive an honorary doctorate of humane letters at the Undergraduate Ceremony on Sunday, May 20.

I am concerned about recent press reports alleging invasive surveillance involving students of the Islamic faith at several colleges, including some within The City University of New York system. Neither the University nor its colleges were informed by law enforcement entities of surveillance activities. In addition, the University has no information as to the basis for such activities.

Medgar Evers College President William L. Pollard and Kings County District Attorney Charles J. Hynes and unveiled a proclamation agreeing to establish an annual symposium focusing on racial issues and the law, and their impact on American society.
