Bronx Community College Professor Awarded Prestigious 2012 Guggenheim Fellowship

Professor Thomas Cipullo, a professor in Bronx Community College’s Art and Music Department, has been Awarded a 2012 Guggenheim Fellowship.

Guggenheim Fellowships are American grants that have been awarded annually since 1925 by the John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Foundation to those “who have demonstrated exceptional capacity for productive scholarship or exceptional creative ability in the arts.”  Guggenheim Fellowships are considered one of the most prestigious scholarly awards in the humanities.

Tom Cipullo was given the fellowship to work on his opera, Mayo.  The opera, which has already been supported by a CUNY fellowship leave and a PSC-CUNY Award, deals with America’s tragic experience with the eugenics movement in the early 20th century.
