CUNY Black Journalists Team Competes in Asian American Journalists’ First NYC Trivia Bowl

The CUNY Association of Black Journalists competed in the first ever New York City Trivia Bowl of the Asian American Journalists Association on May 18th.

Of 18 teams representing media outlets and professional organizations, the CUNYABJ team finished in ninth place, ahead of The Wall Street Journal and WABC-TV. The New York Times team took the championship.

Six members of the Class of 2012 represented the CUNY J-School: Melissa Noel, Oulimata Ba, Kizzy Cox, Sarah Kazadi, Jorteh Senah, and Alexander Tucciarone (pictured above.)

Teams answered questions about entertainment, current events, geography, science, political history and New York City.

The event, hosted by ABC News’ Juju Chang, raised about $23,000 that will go to scholarships, fellowships, and professional programming.

The Trivia Bowl is a longstanding tradition for the Association’s Los Angeles chapter. This was the first time its New York chapter, the largest in the nation, held the Bowl.

The CUNYABJ team has already been invited to participate next year.
