Macaulay Honors College Student Wins National “Quiz On Korea” Contest

NEW YORK, NY (August, 2012) – Tamar Herman, Macaulay Honors College student at Queens College and East Asian studies major, is the national winner of the first annual “Quiz on Korea” contest. The Korean Consulate General in New York and the Korea Broadcasting System (KBS) sponsored the contest. Tamar is the winner of an all-expense paid trip to Korea. From August 22 to September 1, 2012, Tamar will be touring the country and participating in  cultural exchanges. She will also compete against contestants from 25 other countries in the final round, to be filmed in South Korea and aired on KBS television. For months, Tamar studied Korean history, and geography in preparation for the competition.

The 1st annual “Quiz on Korea” contest is an effort to raise global awareness of Korea. The government of Korea held a series of quizzes at Embassies and Consulates across 25 different nations during the spring of 2012, testing individuals on the country of Korea and its culture. The winner of each nation is travelling to Korea to participate in a final round.
