NYCity News Service Named Finalist For Two Awards

The CUNY Graduate School of Journalism’s NYCity News Service is a finalist for two Editor & Publisher EPPY Awards, it was announced Wednesday.

The News Service, which distributes stories to news outlets and produces large-scale multimedia projects, is in the running in the Best College/University Journalism Website category. A News Service special project, The Doctor Drain, which examines New York’s struggling primary healthcare system, was named a finalist in the Best College/University Investigative or Documentary Report category.

The winners of the international EPPYs competition will be announced Tuesday, Oct. 30.

The EPPY Awards, now its 17th year, honor the “media outlets that are leading the way in the online revolution.”

The NYCity News Service, which debuted in 2007, feeds multimedia content to news organization of various types and sizes, including The New York Times, The Huffington Post and DNAinfo.com. In recent years, the News Service has collected numerous honors from journalism competitions run by the Online News Association, eduStyle, Editor & Publisher and the Society of Professional Journalists, which, in 2010, named the site the best of its kind in the nation.
