Two CUNY Law alums were recently elected to Surrogate’s Court in New York City. Judge Rita Mella (’91), who was elected to Civil Court in 2006, was sworn in at the New York County Surrogate’s Court on December 6. She fills the seat vacated by Judge Kristin Booth Glen, who is retiring and is former dean of CUNY Law. Judge Nelida Malave-Gonzalez (’91), who has been a Civil Court judge in the Bronx since 2005, will be sworn in at the Bronx County Surrogate’s Court on December 11. She fills the seat of Judge Lee Holzman, who is also retiring.
